Aghhhh. Was about to see the doctor before lockdown started re my periods.

Am 45 and think I have started menopause I have many of the symptoms. Today whilst on a essential shop I spied a pee on a stick test kit and hey presto it was positive. Have to repeat in 5-7 days just wondered if anyone knew how accurate these tests are?

I didn't even know you could buy these tests over the counter. I can't comment on how accurate they are however NICE recommend that women age 45 and over who have menopausal symptoms don't need blood tests to check hormones. GPs should be guided by symptoms alone and offer HRT.
I'm sure you could discuss this with your GP over the phone.

Neither did I, spotted it in Tesco today for £10. It has 2 tests and I do the second one in 5-7days.

Menopause is about symptoms not blood values or urine tests.
If you have symptoms, stand firm and ask for HRT.

I definitely have symptoms but have not approached gp as yet. I was about to when the lockdown started and just took the pee test today thinking this will put my mind at rest.

@Passthebubbly Those tests are useless.

The reason is that NO tests are accurate during peri. Your estrogen and FSH levels swing around wildly from day to day during peri so what the test says at 10am on a Wednesday will be different from 2pm on a Thursday in all likelihood!

There is no point doing the test really, is there? If you have symptoms that affect quality of life and need help, think about HRT from your GP.

I have been told this by my meno consultant and also it's my personal experience- had a full blood test for all sorts when I was 51 and it showed I was post menopause. I was still having regular periods and carried on with those for another 18 months.
