Is this weird bleeding perimenopausal do you think? Anxious!

This month I've basically had two periods - one normal and then one very very light.

I've always been incredibly regular - light periods, on time, that last two days. All of a sudden this month my period was late (was paranoid I was pregnant), then I had it as usual, and it ended. Then after about four days it started up again very lightly (like watery blood sorry for tmi...) and has been like this for five days. With very VERY slight cramping. Ie it feels like I'm on. Has anyone ever had anything like this?

I'm 43, so wondering if it could be the start of perimenopause? And also feeling paranoid it's something worse....particularly at a time when nobody wants to be doing into a GP or hospital!!!

Any similar experienced or any advice would be gratefully received - anxious!!! xxx

It's probably nothing but I think you need to get checked out. Hospitals Out Patients are pretty empty right now so you will probably get a prompt appt, if you speak to GP on the phone, he can refer you. The minute you talk to a doctor about 'inter menstrual bleeding' they seem to refer as a matter of course. Or could you be pregnant and have what they call 'implantation' bleeding?

My first symptoms of peri were very gradual - like increased PMS and fatigue, followed by hot flushes and sore joints which have intensified over a period of years. Periods do go irregular, can stretch to five weeks, but not four days after the last.

Oh no - keep away from hospitals unless it's really urgent- risks of picking something up too high.

Bleeding at odd times is really common in peri.

It's usually only women post menopause who are referred for a scan within 14 days. In young women the advice is usually keep a record of bleeding for 6 months.

Maybe just check it wit your GP but they are likely to say it's peri meno.

I get this all the time now (44). I've had a scan, nothing ominous. In Feb I had a 3 week period and agreed with dr to see what happened the following month (due to lockdown), which was normal. I suggest calling GP for chat and have it documented, then see what happens next month.

In your case I'd also do pg test if it's a possibility

I had months of weird bleeding, got referred to gynae and am on a very long waiting list for endometrial ablation.

I am 49. Keep a diary and get checked in a few months.

Hi I'm 48 and think I'm going through perimenopause, would like to seek advice. Been having excessive watery discharge past few years and recent months it kinda slows down but past few mths I started having daily excessive brownish discharge which can soaked up 1-2 pads daily. My last period was sometime in Feb this year, afraid to go for check...wonder if anyone had similar issues..txs.

Lynda07 · 03/05/2020 05:31

Bleeding, especially odd, brownish bleeding, is not uncommon in the perimenopause stage. You'll probably find it comes and goes. Try not to worry but when the current restrictions relax, do see your doctor if only for reassurance.

JosieChua · 03/05/2020 05:48

Txs....and I’m also having perhaps what the others are mentioning period flu on quite a regular basis....feverish etc last 2 months but I’ve no period....just heavy discharge....so worried

JosieChua · 03/05/2020 05:50

Me too! But I haven’t gone for any checks yet....do yours soaked up 1-3 pads on daily basis? Mine is really watery brownish and sometimes blood like period past 2 months..

nearden · 03/05/2020 23:10

I've recently had the same thing - one light followed a week later by heavier then a week off and it's back again in! I'm going to contact the doc to check whether it is a hormonal change e.g. drop in progesterone

do you experience cramps and tummy discomfort...I have that this week...hope all is well....

BooseysMom · 04/05/2020 04:12

do you experience cramps and tummy discomfort..

I'm lying in bed with exactly that and i'm not due AF for 1.5 weeks. The cramps are getting worse and it's always leading up to AF which is evil. I'm 48. GP prescribed antidepressants but i'm not taking them as my mood has lifted and it's physically that is worse. Insomnia too. Hateful.
