Hello looking for some advice. I turn 40 in May. My periods have been irregular for a couple of years. They’re either 2 weeks apart or 4/5 sometimes 6 weeks. I had a blood test last April and everything fine, had an internal all fine. I’ve got 2 kids and my husband has had the snip. The last couple of weeks I’ve started getting hot flushes. About 5-10 a day. They last less than a minute. I’m also getting a lot of night sweats. Wake up roasting flip duvet off etc. My last period was 55 days ago says my app. Could this be peri? I’ve also been getting lots of headaches the last few weeks - mostly in the morning. I figure a lot of this could be due to lockdown and having the kids at home etc. Any advice would be fab please. I’m taking Tesco equivalent of Well Woman. Many thanks!

Yes possibly but this is early. Peri menopause can last for about 10 years so you may be starting. I skipped a period when I was 41, GP didn't check my hormones, skipped another one when I was 42, hormones were normal, skipped another month when I was 43 and my hormones showed I was peri menopausal. Hormone results can be unreliable as levels can fluctuate.
The important things to note are hormone tests are recommended for women experiencing symptoms under the age of 45. So you may need your hormones checked again.
Also it is vitally important you start HRT if you are perimenopausal to replace the oestrogen your body will miss out on for a decade.
You should read the NICE guidelines on menopause paying attention to the section on premature ovarian insufficiency and discuss with your GP again.
Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me will be along soon.
Take care. It may not be menopause but I can understand your shock. I felt this too!

Thanks a lot for your reply. They said it was possible it was peri last year but everything I read says your periods can go haywire for quite a few years so I figured it wasn’t too much to worry about. The hot flushes have totally thrown me though. Never had anything like that and they’re driving me nuts!! I imagine I’m going to have to wait months to see a dr though as will be bottom of the priority pile! Did you start on HRT at 43 then?

I started mine at the same age.

Don't rush into HRT - discuss other options with your GP

Best wishes 🌼

I had awful symptoms at 41 and started hrt 6 months later. I am 44 now and 2 years on hrt. If your symptoms are severe, ask for help.

Thanks everyone. Good (or bad!) to know it is possible it could be that. I read Red Clover is meant to help a lot with hot flushes so going to try that first. Hopefully it helps with night sweats as need my sleep right now! The lack of period is obviously a bonus not concern haha

Can someone tell me if this sounds like menopause? I'm turning 40 in October. My periods are ALWAYS 5-7 days long with the 2nd and 3rd day being heavy with clotting and cramps. Last month my period was 5 days, but WAY lighter than normal and brown spotting for 3 days after.. so I guess it lasted 8 days? Now this month my period was even lighter. Didnt even need a tampon for 6 days...yesterday and today (days 7-8) bleeding got heavier and with clots. Also having cramps. Usually by day 8 I'm not bleeding at all...but for some reason today I'm bleeding heavier than I did the last 7 days. Its worrying. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is it just a wacky couple of cycles? Or is this the new norm? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like peri to me, I had regular but lighter periods during my peri but with a lot of meno symptoms.
