I know there are a few threads on this but most seem to be for women over 45 and I know guidelines are slightly different for over 45’s. Sorry this is also quite long
I went to my GP last year as I believe I was starting the peri menopause due to classic symptoms (night sweats, mood swings, dry skin and eyes, headaches, and periods going a bit wonky and unusual for me). She insisted on giving me the FSH test which came back as slightly high but not conclusive. It was 11.6 and it was the day after I had come off my period. After some persuasion she let me try HRT, rather than anti depressants, and the first 3 months were ok-ish, but it didn’t fit, so we swapped and all seemed to be better.
About 6 weeks into my new pack I had a couple of seemingly unrelated illnesses - very heavy cold, then what turned into a really bad urine infection that took 4 lots of antibiotics to shift. Since then I’ve been having loads of tingling feelings and lightheadedness, random pains, loss of appetite and weakness in all my muscles, meaning I’m unable to go to work (luckily I can work from home).
After having the book thrown at me in terms of blood tests over the past 3 months, the doctors have been unable to find the problem. I came off my HRT about 6 weeks ago as I was concerned this may be masking a different problem, but as things aren’t any different other than all my peri symptoms coming back, I’m going to go back on it tomorrow.
However, I’ve now seen a different GP who has questioned my HRT and has sent me for another FSH test due to my age, as apparently HRT shouldn’t be given to under 45’s without gyno referral? She hasn’t said she’ll take it off me, but I’m wondering how best to prepare myself for my appointment next week? Any help would be much appreciated
