Hello all. Took my first 200mg micronised progesterone last night, it was a horrible night and this morning again l m trying to put myself back together. I feel that my head is inside one big fog or that l m under strong antidepressant...12 days of this for the next 13 years.( l m 37). Do you think it gets better? Doctor told me to divide it 2 times a day but l can t dare to take even one during the day so l just took two pills before bed. Also is it better sbsorbed if taken with food? Thank you.

It might get better. Some of us do feel very zombie like on it at first but if you can keep going for 2 or 3 months it might not be so bad.

Taking i t with food will actually increase the effects.

The alternative which your dr hasn't mentioned, is that you can use the same capsules vaginally- just insert at night. This method is actually preferred by some drs as it gives a more direct absorption and also it has fewer side effects.

Give it a go?

Interesting thread.I quite like the fact it has calmed me down!
.Normally I am a hyper active person that doesn't stop.Taking this pill at night means I am more chilled and on my nights off have cut my alcohol in half to 2/units per week.
Last night I didn't take it as I wanted to see how I would feel and I woke up bright and full of energy.I agree it feel s how I would expect an antidepressant.to feel.

Thank you so much. Wow really? Will l simply insert the two capsules like a tampon. Definitely will give it a go tonight. Is just before bed right or during dinner? Honestly this page and you guys played such crucial role for me. First l found out that l don t give a week break that my doctor said, second l found out that 14 days of Progesterone is too much and 12 is what it should be and now this.Out of curiosity, inserting them vaginally, can it trigger any cysts or tumors down there? I know that there ve not been studies made regarding the side effects of bio identical hormones in the long run as its new. Thank you.

You can insert it whenever- just make sure it stays put and doesn't fall out before it's dissolved.

No it won't trigger cysts.

Utrogestan is not new. It's been around for decades- at least 30 years- and is used a lot in fertility to prevent miscarriages. Women use something like 600mgs a day for that, vaginally.

It's also not called bio identical. It's body identical.

Also, I've been advised that 10 days' use is okay although that is 'off label' and I am under the supervision of a consultant.

Thank you. I will use it for 12 days. Hope that will be ok too.Better than 14 l guess.

Hi. I inserted them vaginally last night but there was some leakage. As if it came back. And that s after laying down for 15min and inserting it correcyly. Is that normal? I can not risk not getting it in my system. Quite confused about what to do.

There is always some leakage- that's normal.

I insert it when I am in bed, last thing.

I assume it's working as I do have a good bleed each time.

Sageda how are your symptoms?I was loving the calming effect of the pills last week as I was on holiday. Now I am a little concerned my get up and go has got up and gone!😂
I will persevere though as it has only been one month.

Hello. I popped both pills at the same time 200mg in total just before bed. 30 min later l couldn t stand still and felt dizzy so went to sleep. Felt its effect during sleep to as if under strong antidepressant and in the morning it was hard, foggy brain.

@sageda Feeling dizzy is a known side effect and I think it's listed on the leaflet. That's why they are used at night. However if you use them vaginally you ought not to get the dizziness or not so much. If you take them 30 mins before bed you may well feel dizzy. I take - or rather insert them- in bed and don't usually get up unless I need the loo later in the night.

The sleepy feeling ought to pass once you are up in the morning.
I sleep better - usually- and feel a it dopey when I get up but within an hour so to it's gone.

I'd try not to think too much about it.

I've never taken an anti depressant so can't compare, but for me it just feels slightly sedating.

I've used it for 7 years, and before that used Norethisterone. This is an option if you don't get on with Utrogestan but it gave me worse mood swings.

Thank you. No l answered the question because it was asked but l don t take them orally since then and insert them which is great. Is it normal to get sore breasts on it, l m on my 7th day and ve sore breasts. Also lwas searching today about any data regarding the use of body identical hormones for premature ovarian failure patients and higher risk of cancer. There is no data yet. Perhaps in the next 10 years there will be but l have to be on them for like 12 years and get slightly scared . Any thoughts? @jinglinghellsbells

I can tell you feel pretty anxious about all of the HRT stuff!
Please try to relax on it.
The risks of HRT for women your age do not apply. The risks kick in after 50 and even then are very small.

Maybe you can find some more support on the Daisy Network which is a UK charity led by doctors, for women with POF. it's online- have a look :)

Thank you. I will definitely. X
