Nearly 58. When can I stop with the HRT?

My GP says ...just keep taking it but surely there comes a point when menopause is over?

You can take HRT for as long as you have symptoms, this may be a few years or maybe for life. The menopause doesn't end, once you are menopausal you are menopausal for life... meno means end of periods. Some women have no symptoms, others for a few years , others for life. My mother is mid seventies and still having flushes and sweats, it's a totally individual thing.
The only way to know is to stop HRT and see what happens you may be one of the lucky ones!

Hmmm, but how do you know when to stop?

There is no right time to stop and the only way to know if you're still having symptoms is to stop and see what happens, you can always start again if you feel you need to. Some women take HRT for a long time if not for life for bone and heart protection, latest studies show that it also protects against bowel cancer and dementia so there's that to figure in with your decision, I plan on taking it for as long as I can for those reasons.
If you feel good on HRT and have no adverse health issues why would you want to stop?

If you stop, you are supposed to give it 3 months to see how you feel. If you really can't cope then you can restart it before 3 months.

I tried coming off and after a month had bad night sweats again- am a lot older than you.

If I stop I can tell within 7 to 10 days, so much so that sometimes I have had symptoms and then realised I haven’t changed / replaced my patch. My symptoms didn’t even start until I was 56, everyone is different.
