Normal according to folklore doctors and every single website you read.
Hot flushes
Insomnia
Irregular periods
Hair loss
Loss of libido
Moodiness (might just be a male invention)

versus my symptoms which I had for two years before the lightbulb moment

Asthma - terrible from nowhere except a minor cat allergy
Massive hair - whilst it fell out in handfuls, it was completely out of control and ten times more of it
It went CURLY overnight. Zero to hero straight to wavy (I actually like this symptom)
Bloating - uncontrollable painful bloating. 9 months pregnant in a flash and I tried every single elimination of food groups. Nothing touched it.
Gluten intolerance. Avoiding gluten didn't make a jot of difference to the bloating.
Constipation. I have never been so constipated in my life except pregnancy. Only difference being the drugs WORKED when I was pregnant. Nada. 6 days was my longest. I had to pick poop out my bum (I am so not sorry for TMI)
Joints no longer click. I have had clicky toe joints my whole life. They are a bit short and stubby. They no longer click and the pain is off the scale.
I've had the mirena for almost ten years (never stopped my bleed mind) so period wise I couldn't tell you but they did go haywire - 23 day cycle to a 12 day pile of randomness.
Loss of libido - no, not at all and still very horny but my vagina is so dry that it tears on exercise and I keep getting thrush having never had it before in my life. There is no lube invented to solve this because I have tried every single one.
Am I moody? I don't think so but apparently I'm intolerant and when someone (only seems to apply to my siblings and DP) is stupid, I totally lose the plot. It's still rational to me because they were being stupid but nowadays, my tongue seems to have its own steel.

12 visits to the (always female and four different ones) GP for mostly the stomach stuff and also the thrush (which actually I didn't have when they swore blind I did), the irregular bleeding, the asthma. Not once did they mention menopause. The Gyne did that when I was sent for a biopsy for the irregular bleeding.

I've recently turned 44.

I rambled more than I planned.

What are your weirdest symptoms that are menopause related or just frankly fucking weird and you haven't figured out yet?

Vivid dreams
Anxiety
Wavy hair (I like it though)
Chin and neck hairs
Acne
Random dizziness
Periods still regular but are starting to space out a bit more, my last cycle was 39 days. I haven't experienced the flooding that lots of women mention thankfully.

I'm 46. It's awful! I feel like an old woman.

I’m a year and a half post and I have a Seborrhoeic Dermatitis aswell I look like a druggy and my skin is too sore to use makeup due to rosacea.
Does this rubbish get any better ? My skin is so sore even water iritates it.
I’m on HRT patches hoping this would help my skin .
Also have burning mouth.

I'd give mirena a go - I totally love mine. Had one since 2007 (with short removal to get pregnant again and have baby). No periods...heaven. And according to the menopause lady I saw last week, when you start HRT getting the progesterone right is the hardest part of HRT. And if you can deliver it locally rather than systematically then so much the better, as risk of side effects is lower.

And if it is horrible for you can always get it taken out. You can do it yourself if you are not squeamish and can get a good grip on the strings, though I guess doctors don't recommend it. But all they do is pull it out.

I had the coil but got a bad infection. It hurt like a bastard going in! Tried everything except the implant. I'm 47 and trying to cope without medical assistance as so many say their side-effects are worse than their symptoms. I can't be bothered with doctors.

The strangest symptom i get in the run-up to a period is a weird tingly burning sensation down below. Periods are still 28 days but this last one was a killer in the run-up to it and was 4 days early.

Other lovely symptoms are..

Vivid dreams
Waking every night for an hour at 3am
Palpitations and racing banging heart rate (scariest thing of all)
Terrible anxiety, heightened emotions (like pmt 2 weeks of every month, in fact all bloody month these days)
Dizzy spells and eye-sight weirdness
(Can't ride a bike any more!)
Occasional hot flushes but mostly cold flushes (yes to the pp who gets these, they are real!)
I'm 47..please tell me it doesn't get any worse!

Hi all, first time posting! I've had burning mouth this last 18 months, just started very suddenly one night, horrendous pain on the tip of my tongue which spread throughout my whole mouth, weirdest thing I've ever had! It's settled now to a constant stingy feeling, but seems to really kick off around my period. Have tried all kinds of multi vitamins, sprays and mouthwashes and it just won't go away. Have had MRI and all clear thankfully. Wondered has anyone else had this? Thank you!

Tasharuby1 · 27/01/2020 09:10

Yes I do. On top of all my other symptoms. It burns when I eat as well.
Just check with your dentist that it’s not lichen planus.
If not it’s hormonal or peripheral neuropathy. There is something that could possibly help I’m on it at the moment. It’s not cured it as of yet but it’s eased off a bit but it’s supposed to take 3 months and I’ve only been on it 2 . You have to get a private prescription for it. PM me if you want details.
