Hot flushes - could I be starting my menopause?

Hi,

I have been having extreme hot flushes up to 20 times a day and through the night for a couple of weeks now. I took my temperature quite a bit yesterday during these hot flushes and they average 38.3 but one temp was 39.5! I felt very dizzy with that one. I'm only 44 so wasn't expecting this quite yet. Does anyone have some knowledge and experience to share with me? I am assuming I'm pre- menopasal as still having regular periods. Am I right? I hope someone can advise, I don't want to waste Doctors time if it is just my body taking it's natural course.

I was having 60+ a day at one point! Started when I was 41.
Hot flushes are a symptom of poor vasomotor function, often caused by fluctuating oestrogen levels and a very definite sign of perimenopause. (Although not everyone suffers with them).

Have a look at Menopause Matters website and go see your GP. You might need to be very firm with your GP and don't be fobbed off particularly if they try to give you an anti-depressant instead of HRT. Don't bother with blood tests, they don't really tell you anything and aren't reliable. A GP should diagnose based on symptoms alone - as I said, look at Menopause Matters and you might recognise various other symptoms of perimenopause you're also suffering with although you might not have realise it was all connected

JinglingBells knows far more about HRT than I do so will probably be able to offer some advice. (I'm a slightly unusual case so am on a very different regime to many on here).

StellaRockafella - Thank you for your insight. I will take a look at that website and go to the GP once armed with more knowledge.
I'm very grateful for your message!

I have been experiencing hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings and my usually predictable monthly’s are no longer predictable! I spoke to my GP and all they’re interested in doing is changing my anxiety meds to stronger ones! Blood test came back negative so I’ve hit a brick wall! Don’t let them fob you off!

My hot flashes started at 39 and diagnosed at peri at 41. I started hrt at 42 and my only regret is that I didn’t start hrt sooner.
