PMS - what happens after menopause?

For those of you who suffered bad PMS, worse in perimenopause, what happened to your symptoms when you finally hit the menopause?

Just wondering what 'stage' of your monthly cycle you seem to have settled in - I know that the hormone fluctuation goes away, so are you more like 'normal' in the first half, or second half of what was your cycle?

Also, was it easier to lose weight once the menopause was complete?

Hoping there is light at the end of the tunnel ...

The PMS has disappeared! But, I have adopted a much healthier lifestyle to deal with the menopause without HRT. Maybe if I'd done that at a younger age (especially cutting right back on sugar and alcohol and having a regular yoga habit), I wouldn't have had such horrendous PMT.
I find it very hard to keep weight off now, especially around the middle and use intermittent fasting to prevent any more middle age spread.

Thanks, so are you perpetually in the first or second half of your would-be cycle? A shame about the weight, though I guess it is rare to see hour-glass figures among older women Hmm

I'd say it's like being in the second half, no mood swings or any of the unpleasant PMS symptoms.

It's gone. Best Thing Ever.
Life is no longer ruled by hormones, no ups and downs, no moods, no discharge and no bleeding. The menopause has such a bad reputation and yet I find it liberating.
Also contrary to popular belief I haven't grown a moustache or put any weight on.
The only negative was that I had horrendous hot flushes for 3 years - didn't take HRT.

PMS no longer exists after the menopause! It's wonderful.

I have no pms. Just started HRT after horrid night sweats, I feel quite good now. No more periods 😀

My PMS went bananas during the menopause. I was basically PMSing the whole time with little respite. In the end I tried HRT which made me feel PMS and pregnant. Then I got a Mirena coil, periods completely stopped and no PMS. Not sure if I am still menopausal as have zero symptoms since the Mirena. God I hope I take it out in 3 years time and I've circumnavigated it. If not, I'll get another one straight away!

VirginiaCreeper · 27/12/2019 19:57

@FelicemNatalemChristi I had mirena coils for 15 years prior to menopause. Life changing benefits. I kept the last one past it's sell by date and had it removed once I was a full year clear of periods. Sadly it didn't prevent hot flushes.

Thanks all, there is hope. Now to get through each month without doing any permanent damage to anyone Shock

Diary, that's interesting. Do you not get PMS on HRT? I was on it for a short while, didn't really need it and now I wonder why I bothered but for the time I was taking HRT I had PMS and awful migraines. Was much better when I stopped and could cope with the flushes.
