I'm 42 & have been suffering from quite severe fatigue, irregular & very heavy periods.I'm started HRT a week ago and i'm desperate for it to help with the tiredness.
Has HRT helped alleviate tiredness & drowsiness for you?How long did it take?

About 3 weeks for me.

Snog · 21/11/2019 09:00

Sleep improved by the end of the first week for me

Nicmarshmallows · 21/11/2019 14:09

About 4 weeks for me

ifeellikeanidiot · 21/11/2019 17:02

Sleep improved within a couple of weeks for me. Other physical symptoms like joint pain and sweating improved quickly too
For the tiredness/anxiety/depression and loss of motivation it took me a couple of months (and upping my dose) but then it was a significant improvement. Advice is between 5 and 12 weeks to see full benefit.

Grin when I asked my family if they noticed much difference since i started hrt they all replied that I've stopped going to bed in the daytime!

Puddypuddy · 21/11/2019 21:13

That's reassuring to hear!
Is it normal to have a bleed when on the progesterone?l have to take it for 2nd half of my cycle.Have another 7 days left with the progesterone.

What's your regime? I'm take progesterone on days 1 - 10 and get a bleed days 13 - 16 (ish!)

Puddypuddy · 21/11/2019 23:31

I'm supposed to take it from day 14 to 28.I'm on day 21 now.

Yes you will get a bleed. I have had mine on day 27 for about 4-5 days but do have horrendous period pains. I've only been on HRT for 2 months, and have swapped to patches (evorel Sequi). I'm on first patch now (i Change on Saturday). I am sleeping better 6-7 hours a night, have less night sweats, and anxiety is more manageable. But I do feel like I'll have 2 really up days, and then have a really low day where I feel anxious, worried about every little ache and pain - I've become really self watchful (does that make sense?), and then I bounce back up again and feel back to my Pre peri self. Should that even out? Or at what point do i need to think about upping my dose?

Puddypuddy · 23/11/2019 02:54

The doctor told me to give it about 5 weeks & if no improvement she would consider increasing or changing my dose.

Almost immediately I felt a relief and after a few months I started to see an improvement.

thenightsky · 23/11/2019 09:33

My progesterone is day 17 to 28 and I get my bleed on evening of day 3. It only lasts three days max though and is very light.

charm8ed · 23/11/2019 20:06

Probably about 4-8 weeks. It wasn’t like a magic cure I just sort of didn’t feel as bad as before.

AnuvvaMuvva · 23/11/2019 20:27

Did they test your blood to see if you're anaemic? If you've been having really long, heavy periods and are fatigued, it sounds like you might be. I was, last year when my periods had become torrential due to fibroids. I was breathless, exhausted, needed a nap every day at 3pm. Like the walking dead! Felt better within a week of taking Iron.

AnuvvaMuvva · 23/11/2019 20:28

By the way -- my blood test only showed my Ferratin and haemoglobin were low. They were still within the "normal" range. But you can feel like CRAP well within the normal range.

Puddypuddy · 26/11/2019 21:40

Thanks, I'll check that.

Hi all,

How do people remember to take the progesterone? I am so forgetful I am worried that I won't remember the weird cycle of it all.

Also, are there side effects to that part of it ? I am starting the whole HRT routine today, really need some relief from the night sweats, anxiety, weight gain and aching etc, but I am feeling really nervous about actually starting down this road. I have the patches etc sitting here ready to go but having a wobble 😔
