I've been given some vivelle patches.25 so the lowest dose. The pack says use one week after new mirena as mine is over due replacing.
The thing is the GP can't replace it until the 18 november.Having felt pretty dreadful for a few months I'm eager to feel like my old self.Physically and mentally.
Is this advice because I would start to bleed again? thanks in advance.

Are you sure that is what the leaflet says? (One week after a new Mirena?)

The reason for using progestogen as well is to stop your womb lining building up too much - but we're talking of estrogen - only for months and months not a few weeks.

The Mirena or oral progestogens prevent this as they prevent build up of the lining.

There is no risk in using estrogen-only for a few weeks and indeed 2 months (one type of HRT - Tridestra) is estrogen only for 10 weeks then progestogen for 14 days.)

However, you need to ask your GP. What is odd is that they didn't talk about all of this at the time of giving you the patches. You ought not to have to come on a forum to ask- or did they say hold off till November?

You are unlikely to come to any harm using the patch alone for roughly 7 weeks. However it's not my role to 'prescribe' - I'm simply telling you what I have done which is under a consultant's guidance (longer-cycles.)

What your GP CAN do is to give you tablets- Utrogestan, Norethisterone or Provera- as a substitute for the Mirena so you can create a cycle, using them once a month.

No you should not bleed on estrogen only but there is tiny risk you could have some light spotting .

Maybe read about HRT and what the 2 hormones do so you understand how it works?

One.GP suggested her and had to get advise herself regarding Mums ovarian cancer risk.p
Another is fitting the mirena and said she would prescribe her just to get them now as shortages may make it difficult. It was a phone consultation and she said wait for mirena.
A sticker on the pack says to wait and to use twice a week.Like I say I want to feel better asap. Thanks for the advice jingle.I did wonder if I could risk a big bleed as that is why I had mirena for 12 years now.

The sticker is from the pharmacy maybe not the actual patient leaflet?
There is no shortage of some sorts of estrogen so if you have the Mirena eventually you ought to be able to find one type of estrogen despite the shortages.
You might also find such a low dose is not enough.

I think most specialists would say it is fine to use estrogen alone for 7 weeks before a Mirena but you need to work wit your GP or ask for tablet form progesterone in the meantime.
