Just started vagifem, any advice?

I started vagifem pessaries on Tuesday but after only a couple of days I've now got a thickish discharge, enough that I'm using panty liners. It is inoffensive and there's no odour or itching.

Is this normal as the vagina gets used to the pessaries? I'm loathe to stop and will ask my gp Monday if this persists, just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I've googled and can't find any info whether if discharge initially is common?

It might settle down because once the surface cells change back to more healthy thicker cells, less estrogen is absorbed. However, discharge is normal and good! Did you not have a reasonable amount before menopause? Might be tmi but certainly pre menopause I would use panty liners quite often because for younger women a clear discharge is normal and healthy.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I did, but this seems thicker and a bit discoloured. As I mentioned it isn't offensive and there isn't any associated itching so I wasn't sure if this was normal once the pessary had dissolved.

I'll give it another couple of days and see how things go.

I'm currently considering if I should go down the hrt route but find all the different types overwhelming! What are the benefits of pessaries?

Pessaries just act locally on the vagina so if sex has become painful they can help, without the risks of systemic hrt as only a tiny amount of oestrogen is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Completely normal to get discharge with Vagifem, it means it’s working, you may find it lessens when you aren’t using it every day.
I have been using it for 4 years, much prefer to have a small amount of discharge then the burning VA.

Thanks NK. I was expecting some discharge just Thur/Fri it seemed quite excessive. It seems much less now, maybe takes a few days to adjust.
