Bleeding - perimenopause

Hi all any advice would be welcome please. I think I have been peri for around 3/4 years although with the exception of anxiety I've been fairly lucky so far. My periods have been regular every 22/23 days until the beginning of July. I then missed my next period and didn't have a period for nearly six weeks. Now I have been bleeding for 18 days.

Having not seen a Dr for 2 years I had an appointment booked yesterday for a bad back so thought I would mention the bleeding as well. He didn't seem unduly concerned but asked if I'd lost weight (I haven't). He said if it didn't stop in 2 weeks to go back; he couldn't examine me as I was bleeding. He mentioned HRT and told me to think about it. I've now made an appointment for just over 2 weeks to see a different Dr.

Has anyone else had experience of this? None of my friends seem to have had this happen to them and my Mum had a hysterectomy at 47 and said she never had any menopausal symptoms at all.

Any advice would be very welcome - I've been consulting Dr Google and that is just making more worried.

Hi OP you might find this thread useful. I had the same as you a couple months ago.

It lasted just over 4 weeks! Mid-June to mid-July, and before that I'd not had a period since April. I've just finished another period that lasted the usual 5-6 days, though it was much heavier than ever before.

I've had 2 blood tests and an ultrasound so will be going back to the doc in a couple of weeks for the results and to see if I am indeed menopausal. I'm only 42, feel like it's too early for this!

I have now been bleeding for @ 8 weeks solid - the flow comes and goes, but it has got heavier in recent days. Went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and he said it may be a 'last hurrah' before it finishes for good. They did blood tests, but haven't had results yet. Toying with giving them another call.
