Can I take HRT?

Hi lovely ladies.

I am getting close to that special age & was starting to think about HRT. The main thing that i am concerned about is the fact that my mum had breast cancer (she's fine now).

Does this mean that I wouldn't be a candidate for HRT because of the close family member having cancer?

It depends. Some drs say it depends on your mum's age when she had it, (if she was very young it's more of a risk.) But only 5% BC is down to inheritance. You need to discuss with a specialist.

Hi Jingling, I guess that there isn't a simple yes or no answer to my question, as there are so may variables. I will have a word with my GP initially.
I do appreciate your answer -Thank you

@bumpsadaisy11 Your GP is probably clueless to be honest. My consultant says that unless a woman has 2 first degree relatives ( mum and sister) with BC before 45, it's not a no-no to use it. Your GP won't have specialist knowledge and they tend to err on the side of caution. Ask to be referred to a menopause consultant or pay to see one privately if you can.
