Dexa Scan

Thanks to the advice from @JinglingHellsBells I had a Dexa scan last week. I'm 53 and have been on HRT for over a year now. I was concerned about my bone density as my mother has severe osteoporosis. My GP wasn't interested in getting me a scan, so I found a private clinic in London and paid £65 to have it done, on a self referral basis.

Really pleased to have a base line now for my bone density and feel like I'm back in charge of my health. Thank you @JinglingHellsBells for your advice on this.

Good. Was it a full scan spine and hips and not just a heel scan? That's incredibly cheap- I pay over £200.

Spine and both hips.

What kind of centre did you go for? Just curious as the first one I had - out of London- was £100 -ish and that was 15 years ago.

Did they explain the graphs and readings to you? (Or can you understand it anyway?)

It's in Wimpole St. ive got a copy of the three scans, and have a rough idea of what they mean, but there's going to be a report sent to me in a coup,e of weeks and a copy also gets sent to my GP. Once again, so grateful for your advice, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have asked for HRT let alone know about bone density etc.

brilliant value! I pay 3 x that in London but go back to the same place each time so the results can be compared each time.

I went to the same centre. I was very impressed with the service and price.
