No more evorel conti patches :(

So, I managed to get some from an online pharmacy but now they cant source them either :(

I'm 46. I've been perimenopausal since I was 40 - started dramatically with rather alarming cardiac arrhythmias!

Had the whole lot...night sweats, rages, anxiety, weight gain...

I suffer from hemi plegic migraines so I cannot take the combination pill or any other oral HRT...I've tried.

I had an endometrial ablation last year so dont get much bleeding anymore really.

Now, bear in mind that the drs told me its important for me to take HRT to protect my heart and bones....

Last week the dr told me that my options are either the mirena coil or prozac.

This seems pretty crappy to me.

So my heart and bones don't matter anymore??

I'm having to wear a heart holster monitor for a week next week as my palpitations are back with a vengeance.

So...what can I ask for? I'm hoping to get an appt on Monday.

Do I accept the mirena and ads and hope for the best?

Can I even have one after the ablation??

Please help. I'm getting quite anxious about it all:(

What’s happened to evorel?

That’s the one I use!

Iambuffy · 29/06/2019 19:55

No longer made I believe.
Same with femseven conti.

Call me a cynic but I'm assuming they dont make enough profit from them?

You can get your gp to prescribe oestrogen gel. You will also need a progesterone as you still have a uterus which would prolly have be in form of mirena if you definitely can’t take it orally (it’s the oestrogen you can’t take orally wrt stroke/migraine)

Iambuffy · 29/06/2019 20:13

When I asked about gel she had never heard of it...
Any info I can print off and take?

www.menopausematters.co.uk/oestrogens.php website has lots of information on all the different types of HRT/preparations.

It’s not really acceptable for a GP to have never heard of it and not make any effort to find out - oestrogen gel has been around for ages!

Iambuffy · 29/06/2019 22:45

I agree.
I was a bit shocked

I don't think they've been permanently discontinued- I think the distribution is just being controlled, so the is lack of availability in some places.
See p 13 of this document www.dorsetccg.nhs.uk/Downloads/aboutus/medicines-management/Other%20Guidelines/Supply%20issues%20update%20FINAL%202019.pdf

Femseven conti has.
Evorel has "issues" button one knows when itll bd resolved.

buffy - who told you it had been discontinued? That's not the official information from the Dept of Health as of June 2019:

FemSeven Products
• Theramex, the supplier of FemSeven Conti and Sequi patches are experiencing long term supply issues affecting both products and expect to be out of stock until late 2019.

Evorel Products
• Janssen-Cilag, the supplier of the Evorel transdermal patches has confirmed that supplies of all presentations are currently available.
• However, where supplies for the Evorel 50 and Evorel Conti (24 pack size) are lower than normal, the supplier is applying restrictions on orders as a precaution to ensure stock is maintained.

I find that GPs and even pharmacists really have a poor knowledge of HRT and will often say anything to get rid of you to avoid further discussion.

Iambuffy · 30/06/2019 11:10

Definitely!
It says on Google that femseven conti has been discontinued.
I'll try and find the link

buffy - there's someone over on Menopause Matters here www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,42226.90.html?PHPSESSID=586c027a1731e0392398987247f56ee7

saying that the manufacturer of femseven conti says it will be available again early 2020?

Who knows? It's a bl**dy pain, all these supply issues.

P.S. I've PM'd you...

Iambuffy · 30/06/2019 13:09

Thank you x

I'm still able to access Evorel patches.

I'm on oestrogen only now so I've a whole stash of Evorel Conti sitting doing nothing. Just saying.

princessTiasmum · 30/06/2019 16:30

My daughter was on Femseven Conti, but this time no stock, she has been put on Evoral Conti, which i am also on, my Dr says there are plenty available, also read a few days ago that it is not used a lot so plenty of stock
I am in North Yorkshire

Iambuffy · 30/06/2019 17:15

That's kind, thank you.
I think perhaps it is a bit of a postcode lottery?
I tried loads of online pharmacies after my gp said they couldn't get it and finally found one, then they have just e mailed to say they can no longer source it.
I'm going to tell the dr I'm happy to have a mirena and gel and see what she says.

Quick update;

8 week wait for mirena at my surgery (?) But going on oestrogen only patches and progesterone pills till I get a mirena in.

Had some swabs taken too.

Happy with that.

She 🙄 at what the male dr said 😁

Thank you all for your kind wishes x
