Sudden night sweats at 40

I’ve not long turned 40, and I am experiencing extreme night sweats. For the last few weeks I’ve been waking every night drenched and have to change pjs as they feel cold and wet against my skin. I’m wondering if this is the start of the menopause for me. I don’t have any other symptoms, periods seem fine and regular. What else could be causing this? I’m not using warmer bedding, heating is off at night as it’s summer and I’m wearing light weight pjs. It seems trivial to visit gp, but it’s v annoying! Any advice? Thanks!💕

You are probably starting peri-menopause. I wouldn't be surprised if you start developing more symptoms fairly soon, and they can come and go because your hormone levels will be fluctuating all over the place.

Peri can go on for a decade. Average age for the menopause is 51 so starting peri symptoms at 40 is not at all unusual.
