Estrogel & Utrogestan.

I'm postmenopausal.

Been on this HRT for about 16 months.

I take the Utrogestan every second month.

I haven't bleed, only spotted after the last few times that I've taken the Utrogestan.

My only worry is I feel like I am going to have a period as my lower stomach is very tender.

Is it normal to just stop bleeding on this combination?

I'm 45.

20% of women using sequi HRT never bleed.

Bit confused though as you say you feel as if you are going to bleed now- so how far into your 2-month cycle are you?

As you are using Utrogestan only every 2nd month it would be expected to have some bleeding as the lining ought to e building up.

1 How much estrogen do you use?
2 Who has prescribed this? I'd assume you were under a consultant as the long cycle regime (which I use too) is not prescribed by GPs.

I use it roughly every other month and have a very heavy bleed for 2 days.

Thanks for replying.

I attend a menopause clinic as I was postmenopausal by 43. The Consultant suggested I use the Utrogestan this way.

I really struggle with side effects from the Utrogestan. Slowly I am tolerating it better.

I only finished the Utrogestan last Sunday. Spotted for 2 days this week & the pain in my lower abdomen hasn't improved.

I alwsys used to bleed using it like this but only lightly.

I was worried that possibly the lining of the womb isn't coming way.

I use 5 pumps of Estrogel daily. 200mg of Utrogestan for 10 days. I used to take it orally but tried it vaginally this month.

That's a massive amount of estrogen- why 5 pumps? Did you work upwards from 2?Have you ever been checked to see how your levels are?

I use 1 and a half pumps a day (I'm in my 60s) and have a very full-on bleed for 2 days and lighter flow for 3 days.

I think if I were you, I'd try using 10 days for a month and see if that brings on a bleed, or maybe 14 days if you stick to alternate months. OR you could go back to the clinic and ask for a scan to check your lining.

Im 45.

I started on 2 pumps per day.
It's been increased slowly over the last year. At 5 pumps my estrogen levels are 'good'. I have had blood tests about every 6 months.

I want to avoid using the Utrogestan monthly due to side effects.

Make an appt at the clinic and ask for a scan? No other way to find out what's going on.

SENDMumma · 23/06/2019 20:23

I have an appointment in a few weeks.

Im worried the Consultant will push The Mirena yet again if I mention the Utrogestan.

Hopefully the pain will go before then.

You need to push for a scan t o see what's going on, then decide on what next.

SENDMumma · 24/06/2019 19:23

Thanks.

The Consultant is very good & offered regular scans if I was concerned or had any unexpected bleeding.

Thankfully I don't.

I will ask at my next appointment which is only 2 weeks away.

The Utrogestan will be the cause of me stopping HRT. I can't lose 10 days out of every month. I struggle enough as it is but organise my work diary according to where I am in the 'cycle'. I get severe PMT/irritation/anger type symptoms from Utrogestan.

I just didn't know if it was common to stop bleeding on HRT as I was told to expect heavier bleeding using it every second month.
