Haemorrhoids

Hi,
I have been suffering with haemorrhoids (piles) for three years now and the itching is driving me mad. I’ve used all sorts of creams and stuff but they return as soon as I stop using them. I’ve tried freezing them too!
I’ve had a look and it’s definitely haemorrhoids but I haven’t seen a GP due to embarrassment. Can I do anything? Can the GP do anything to get rid of them? Any wonder stories out there?
I am not overweight nor have I been pregnant in the last ten years. They started just after I lost my mother to cancer. I’m 47.

Itching drives me nuts, help!!!
