I'm 46. Last few month's periods have become quite erratic, I've always had a 28 day regular cycle which seems to be getting shorter, this month my period was a full week earlier than I expected, and weirdly very little pain whereas last month it was agonising. I'm also tearful at random times and really struggling with motivation to do pretty much anything for a chunk of the month, which isn't like me. Nothing else going on in my life that would affect in this way. Poor DH is so confused about what's wrong with his normally cheery wife that is now struggling not to cry or shout because he bought the Wrong Thing at the supermarket.

And if it is, can I do anything about it with supplements? I don't feel it warrants a trip to the GP just yet. I've been reading about rhodiola rosea which sounds like it might help, has anyone tried that?

Floopily I know how you feel. I'm 46 and although my periods are regular, I do get the odd one now which is a week earlier. I feel tearful about anything and everything. This year, during the week before my period, I wake up with a panic attack and most of the rest of the month I wake up feeling nervous!! It does go, but it wrecks my day - I'm left feeling low - particularly the days when I wake up in panic. I'm also getting a lot of headaches.

I have been to the GP and he thought my panic was hormonal. I've had blood tests and am going to see the wellwoman nurse this week - get blood test results and other tests.

My GP suggested Agnus Castus. He completely caught me off guard with that one and I said I'd try it, but I think it's a waste of time. He's got it into his head that I don't like medication as I hardly ever go to see him, but I'll take anything to make this anxiety go away!

Can I be in your gang?

Exactly the same happening here. It started in December and I feel I’ve aged five years!

Also had crushing fatigue but trying to start with the basics, been upping my vitamin D and iron. And eating much more ‘cleanly’ although my alcohol consumption needs some work Confused

Once that’s sorted I’ll start thinking about black cohosh and Agnes castus. Agnes castus worked miracles for me when I was longer. No periods for 2.5 years then bang on cue three months later (as advised) my periods returned. So I do have some faith in the agnus castus thing.

Anxiety is really tricky to manage. I’m trying to look after myself generally.

I highly suggest you get HRT. Best thing I ever did. No more anxiety, no more not flushes, no more sleepless nights. It's crazy to suffer when you don't have to.
