Aches and Pains

Hi... just wondered, does anyone else suffer from aching all over and pain with their menopause... and the need to sleep. I have been told I have Fibromyalgia, but do wonder whether my pain is down to the menopause, hormones etc...

Just bumping this thread for you, @MinchMum1. Hopefully some more Mumsnetters will be along shortly with some advice and support.

In the meantime, have you had your vitamin D levels checked? Low vitamin D can cause aches and pains and extreme fatigue so it's worth going to your GP for a blood test. (I did, and am now taking a bumper dose).

Katenobody19 · 28/05/2019 14:37

Yes! I spent most of yesterday asleep, it's unlike any other tiredness I've had.

Lots of pains, arms, legs, wrists especially. I find taking an iron supplement, Spatone, helps

Being cynical, I feel that fibro is sometimes used as a diagnosis when they don't have a bloody clue what is wrong (and it's also very hard to diagnose anyway.)

What age are you? Where about in menopause? peri or post? Periods or none?

What other symptoms do you have?

What blood tests has your GP done to rule out anaemia and low Vit D? These are the basics.

Women do say they get lots of aches and pains in meno and HRT usually sorts it.

I've been diagnosed with fibro although not convinced that I have it.

My hands hurt so much some times they wake me in the night. Today they have been killing me. I do get pains elsewhere but my hands are the worst.

My mum had flushes till her 80s. Many women only start flushes a few months after a last period.

I have the impression you were on HRT a short time if you are just 52 and only 1 year post meno? You might respond better now and you need to give it at least 6 months.

Has your dr referred you to a rheumatologist? You need to consider things like rheumatoid arthritis.

JinglingHellsBells · 28/05/2019 20:37

@mydogisthebest

As above. You need a referral to a specialist to check for rheumatoid disease. Don't ignore because if it is, your joints could be permanently damaged.

MinchMum1 · 29/05/2019 09:10

Thanks ladies. I am indeed off to docs today and asking to be referred to rheumatology.. mydogisthebest you should prob push for that too its so easy for docs to send you away with a drug. Ive been on pregabalin which actually did help. But now it's a controlled drug i cant get it dispensed quick enough and been without which is not good... 🙄

I have an appointment for 14th June. I have been to the doctor before with pains in my hands but got no joy whatsoever. The pain was nowhere near as bad then though or as constant

MinchMum1 · 29/05/2019 17:11

Oooh. Best get that checked properly. Carpel tunnel syndrome maybe. Been to docs today . Having more bloods taken. If theres inflammatory thing in blood then might refer to rheumatology. I dunno. What us ladies have to out up with eh
