Utrogestan - instructions say take on days 15-26 of 28 day cycle but...

...on day 26 my period started so I assume that now becomes day one not day 27 meaning my cycle isn’t 28 days but 26.

Does that matter? I was stopping the tablets anyway for that round so do I now start counting again with the day my period started being day one and start the pills at the next day 15?

First day of period is Day 1 of cycle. So you start again! Good luck Thanks

It's not really critical.

If you are using it on the usual 28 day cycle, the best way is to choose a date each month. eg 1st of each month (for 12 days), or the 15th, or anything either side.

Bleeding with Utrogestan can be erratic. Mine varies by a few days each time sometimes.

You set an artificial cycle. Don't work it by when you bleed. It can happen before you finish the 12 days or sometimes not till 3 days after.

Thank you both. To be honest taking it on the same dates each month would be really helpful in terms of remembering when to take it (and when not to).

As it’s 9th May now and I took my first ever doses each night for the last 12 days and my (natural) period arrived today, could I now leave it until 1st June before starting the Utrogestan again? That’s a big gap and it won’t line up with my period cycle but, if I understand what you’ve said correctly, I can realign my cycle to the drugs (or not!) but either way I would have a break of 22 days now then take them from 1st to 12th of every calendar month irrespective of my natural periods?

NB - my natural periods vary from 25-30 day cycles but usually about 27 days. They only last 2-3 days.

Yes you can easily leave it till the 1st June.

FWIW I and some other women I know, use 'long cycle' HRT (I do this with a consultant under supervision to watch out for any side effects) and have a far longer gap. Some women do alternate months ( ie 1st Jan then 1st March etc) but this again is only with medical advice and usually includes an annual scan.

So, going a few days over the usual 2 weeks is not an issue at all.

Thank you. I will do.
