I'm going through the same thing. I seem to lose so much hair every time I comb it. It's a general thinning all over so not noticeable to others but it lacks weight (and feels fragile) so it's harder to carry off certain styles.

Sorry, I don't actually have advice.

Yes, I experienced this. My hair felt like it was coming out in handfuls.

I started taking iron supplements. Not sure if it helped but the hair loss definately calmed down.

HRT might help but also have your iron levels checked. I am on HRT so get plenty of estrogen but I eat very little read meat, and have a type of HRT that gives me withdrawal bleeds. I started losing a lot of hair gradually over a year, and for the past 6 months have been using a mix of Spatone and Floridex (tabs.) Hair has grown back but I'm still taking the iron.

Do you think the iron helped it to grow back..mine is so bad my scalp is showing now?

Confused about testosterone levels.some say it helps hair grow others say it doesn't and causes hair loss

My hair is thinner and without volume, I am on hrt too.

I started taking perfectil plus hair tablets. They seemed to help although may just have been coincidence because I also started eating more red meat etc. Worth a try.

I'm hesitating to post this because there's every chance it's just a fluke and won't work for anyone else but I'd kick myself if it could've worked for other people and I hadn't mentioned it. I should also say I'm only just starting with peri symptoms so my hair loss may not even be related.

It was coming out in handfuls when I combed conditioner through or brushed my hair until I happened to run out of shampoo and had to use DD's Child's Farm one instead. I noticed within two washes I wasn't losing as much hair so I've carried on using it. It's the strawberry and mint baby shampoo, have tried the unscented one as well but that doesn't seem to work as well. It's been about 2 months and I lose what I would say is a 'normal' amount of hair now, a few strands when I condition or brush but that's it. No idea if it will work for anyone else but would be really interested to know if anyone tries it.

I have mentioned this on other threads, but i am supposed to have Haemochromatosis, [iron overload] but my iron is far from high, i asked my consultant about yhis, but he said my iron is within normal range which could be anything from 15-100, but for the last year it has br=een far from 100, usually around 28-68, and i have read on my hair loss forums that ferritin has to be at lest 70 to avoid hair loss,
I am not going for any more blood taking [1 pint at a time] until i have either seen no improvement or some improvement, which will tell me if my iron level is to blame

When i have spoken tp people who know about hair loss the first question i am asked is how low is your iron
The last time i had my blood tested my reading was 120, i refused a venesection, as my iron drops quickly but rises slowly it can drop by 100 in one session which then would have left my iron at 20
Sorry for the rant, but i know how i feel when my iron levels drop, and that is tired and grumpy and sometimes dizzy, and fed up of so called Drs telling me what i should do
Mu twin sons have this condition too, and their hair is like steel wool very strong and grows fast, although their iron levels are far too high,in the 1000s,and causes them a lot of joint pain etc,i dont even have any symptoms

princessTiasmum · 11/06/2019 16:45

Me again, sorry, but what i read is so confusing, i am always reading that low iron or ferritin causes hair loss, but on a website for Haemochromatosis on facebook, people are saying high iron or ferritin causes hair loss,
Almost everyone i have asked has said low iron, but even on Phillip Kingsley hair website he says low iron
Also been told that loss of Oestrogen can be the reason, after menopause
I was taking livilal, but my Dr has changed me onto evorel conti, which might be better for me in case the testoterone type stuff in livial could be causing it,but then i have read low T can cause it
I wish someone really knew,
Had thyroid test that is normal so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,?
