Crazy periods (age 43)

Hi, I could do with some advice or hearing experiences of others.

I've just turned 43, and last summer my periods starting being a bit weird...shorter cycles (20/21 days for a couple of cycles and then back to normal).

On February 8 I started my last period and it went on and on and on...for 15 days. It wasn't particularly heavy after the first 3 days but it just didn't seem to want to stop. I got fed up of tampons, so tried going without any protection, but there was a bit too much blood for that.

Anyway, I've not had a period since! I'm not pregnant. I haven't done a test, but DH has a sperm count of zero so there is no way.

I'm feeling a bit fed up because I don't know when my period will come, and the longer I go without it, the more I worry that I'm basically over the hill. Sometimes health anxiety gets the better of me and I think it's something sinister, but the GP was not concerned. I am going for blood tests when my period eventually arrives.

I don't have mid cycle bleeding or anything like that. Just irregular and unpredictable periods! I have also been feeling quite anxious about random things, especially my health, and having mood swings.

I really hope I'm not alone! I feel in limbo waiting for the period and therefore blood tests. I don't know when my mum went through meno because she had a hysterectomy quite young.

Have you any other meno symptoms? It sounds like peri, give some time and you will see after your blood tests.

Sympathies re the health anxiety. I am your age and my periods are exactly the same. Didn’t have one for months last year and then had 2 that didn’t seem to stop. I feel a bit young for peri but I started my periods young (11) so maybe that is why

Menopause is on its way! Over the hill? What are you talking about? Just imagine... no more pain, no more blood, no more pmt! It's a blessing when it comes.

Thank you for the replies...ironically, I have just bought a Mooncup, sitting unused in its packaging for now.

I don't have any other meno symptoms. Which I suppose is good. I guess if there's nothing sinister going on and no long term health implications then I will just accept it, but I don't like sitting wondering when it's going to come!

My last period started just after Xmas and only finished a few weeks ago. I have had test etc and I’m fine. Just part of it all.

My doctor is at the same point in her life as well. And was experiencing different stuff as well. She said this can go on for years. Things changing , getting worse , days of feeling better. New symptoms. Oh the joys of getting older. At least it’s on its way to being over.
