My cycle is shortening. Should I be concerned?

Last year I had my hormone levels checked because I was having terrible night sweats. Levels were ok and the situation seemed to resolve itself.

I'm only 38 and have always had pretty regular 27-29 day cycles. About 6 months ago I started tracking via my fit bit and noticed I was always coming on a couple of days early and my cycles had shortened to bang on 26 days. This month it was 25 days!

Should I be concerned about peri already or is this ok? I'm not ttc or anything so not worried in that way. No history of early menopause in my family

It sounds like peri to me but give it more time to see. This condition can last several years before Meno.

Thanks Emerald. It's a good job I don't want any more kids I suppose!

Same here. It’s normal, if annoying. You could consider contraception such as the mini pill or Mirena if it’s problematic for you, but they don’t work for everyone.

I'm 40 and I'm getting the same -short cycles and also spotting for a few days before my period. I know it's nothing to worry about, but I find it so sad.

I came on here with the same question, but I am much older - just turned 46 a couple of weeks ago. My periods have always been about the 28 day mark, but the last few have been 25-ish.

I feel a bit lost as my only older friend was on the pill for over 20 years, then switched to the mini-pill at 50 - she’s now 53 and still on it, no periods at all. My mum had a really early menopause, but we are not close and I wouldn’t talk to her about this kind of thing.

I don’t have other symptoms, although thinking about it my sex drive is lower - fine once we get going, but I generally wouldn’t think of initiating it.

Do I need to do anything? I’ve only been at the doctor once in the four years we’ve lived in this house, other than a smear test, so I wouldn’t know where to start in terms of knowing if there’s a GP who specialises in women’s health.

I'm two days shorter but also under 4 day's in total (one really heavy, 3 light) plus have the delights of night sweats and poor sleep, such fun ! Thinking of going to gp !
