Raised IgA levels - what does this mean?

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help. I've been on HRT for about three years, but still suffering from night sweats and hot flushes during the day. Went to my GP, on Monday, had a blood test and I've received a letter today saying my oestrogen levels/general hormones are fine but IgA levels are raised (4.4 g/L) and I need to go for a chest x ray. Before I start to google this and put the fear of god into myself, why am i being sent for an x ray? I don't have a cough or cold, so as far as I know no infection in lungs. What are they looking for? Lung cancer?? Any friendly medics out there able to advise? Thanks in advance!

Why didn't you ask the dr at the time? If they want to X-ray you, you at least need to ask what for!

I'd ring them and ask,

sorry- it was by letter- you need to ask them.

I guess that is something about you immune system and your antibodies but it is only a parameter, you need more criteria for a diagnosis.

Hi Goldengoddess

How did you get on? I have the same issue, I have an appointment at the hospital next month - I’m very peri menopausal, went to the docs, blood tests, all ok but raised IgA. Hope all ok x

Hi Daisy

I'm afraid I'm
No further forward because I am still waiting for the results of the second set of blood tests. My own stupid fault because I left it for weeks before going back (been mad busy at work) and only managed to get round to going earlier this week. I'll let you know when I finally hear back!

Hi

I hope the second lot of bloods come back all ok - I find it a bit stressy waiting for things like that. I just want to get my appointment over & done with. Never been referred to haematology before. Let me know how you get on with the second lot of bloods xx
