Hey all, first time poster.
I have been told am in in perimenopause and have been for about 2 years, I’m 40...not sure if it makes a difference.
I’m just wondering on my options, I have struggled with Melasma for 16years, finally have it under control to the extent that it is completely unnoticeable. The doctors have told me I am not a good candidate for HRT as it it will cause my melasma to come back.
At the moment I am taking St.Johns wort, and starflower oil, which helps control my horrendous moods.
My periods at the moment are lasting for 8-9 days every 28 days, the doctor would like like me to have the mirena coil and a low dose of antidepressants...anyone else in a similar situation? Or any advice?

Hopefully you will get some replies from younger posters, but at 40 you are very young for peri.
If your periods stop before 40, its premature menopause, before 45/46 called early menopause.

If your periods are every 28 days, why do you /they think it's peri? First sign is usually irregular periods- that's the criteria.

How do they know you haven't got severe PMS= mood swings?

I'm not sure how any dr can be certain that HRT would cause melasma- it is linked to higher levels of hormones and can affect pregnant women. But HRT is a lower dose of hormones that we have naturally anyway.

Your long term bone and heart health ought to be more of a consideration than the melasma.

Is it all over or just on your face?

I am a bit puzzled- I got slight melasma when I was on the Pill (and in the sun) but have had nothing like it with HRT.
