Phantom period?

I am 48 and was still having very regular but very heavy periods. Just before Christmas my period came a week early which was odd but now I was due on last Monday but nothing yet so 8 days late so far. I have been feeling like a period will arrive since it was due with mild cramping but no sign of it! Its very unusual for me and as they are so heavy usually I'm hoping this means they might be finishing for good. Has anyone had similar??

It's just a missed period- might be called phantom too.
No one can tell how long you will carry on but one missed period is rarely a sign you are near menopause. It can carry on stop and start for a few years, right to the average age of 52.
Have you seen your GP about the heavy bleeding? There are various options to control that and you should have a test for anaemia anyway.

I'm on tranexamic acid which does help and I have been tested for anaemia. Probably getting too excited about the missed period but desperately hoping this is the beginning of the end! Sister completely through the menopause by 49 but hers were never heavy like mine. Not sure how much genetics play a part?

No sure about your sister but mums and daughters tend to be around the same age. Me, my mum and my gran were all around 52. I've 2 friends though whose mums had premature meno in their late 30s, but one friend went to 47, and other 51, so it doesn't always follow.
