OMG HOT FLUSHES DRIVING ME INSANE!

I have no other symptoms really, other than the erratic and ever decreasing periods, so I am reluctant to embark on HRT as I do think I am getting off quite lightly all in all. But these hot flushes are intense right now! I swear to god I could power a small island at the moment. They seem to come in spates. So I will be fine for a couple of weeks, maybe longer and then...christ on a bike...they strike with a vengeance! Anyone got any nuggets of wisdom to stall, decrease or inhibit them?

HRT is the only thing to really sort them BUT you could try OTC things like Menopace, sage tablets, black cohosh, exercise, reducing carbs, spicy food, sugar, caffeine and alcohol.

In time you may find you get other meno symptoms when HRT will be the way to go- flushes tend to be the start, then other things come along too :(

ah, good that there are some options. I will pop to the chemist and Holland and Barrett today! Thank you, I exercise 3 -4 times per week at the gym and walk an hour daily with my dogs so that should be OK, I don't eat many carbs at all other than from vegetables and such like, I do drink corffee and alcohol though! the coffee is what keeps me propped up after sleepless nights with the flushes. I will try anything though, as this is pitiful. Also, I am 53 so I am guessing that I'm well into peri and have not had a period for a couple of months (at least) so I am hoping that this is the end rather than the beginning! Thankyou for you help Flowers

Sounds as if your periods will stop quite soon.
Don't though imagine this will be the end; mine stopped at 53 and the flushes got worse, I went onto HRT and am still on it 10 years later. My mum had flushes well into her 80s. Not saying you will, but be prepared for the possibility.

Ugh! that sounds horrendous. I am hoping to follow in my Mother's footsteps, she barely even noticed she was going through it and apparently, she did not even have hot flushes! My sister was OK too I think. Fingers crossed. Sorry you are still going through it.

I'm in HRT. It's done wonders for my head things -anxiety, forgetfulness, energy. But not much for my hot flushes. Hmm
