Period not arrived

I've been in HRT for perimenopausal hell for the past 5 months. I've had normal cycles like I used to. However, I went through PMT hell for the past 2 weeks but no period. It's at least a week late.

Do the just pack up? They've always been regular but lighter/ flooding so have been changing around over the past 3 years. How do periods usually end?

If I am using progesterone in the last 12 days of my cycle do I need to change this to continuous if my period is still AWOL.

In a way I hope they have stopped. At least I'd be able to see for myself that I am not going bonkers and that my system has shut down.

Don't panic.
Not all women have a bleed on HRT even sequential like you are using.

The periods you have on HRT are not really periods they are withdrawal bleeds. If the lining is not thick enough to bleed (which can happen on a low dose of estrogen) you might miss a bleed. But then it might happen next cycle.

You won't know when your own periods have stopped if you use HRT.

You can't take continuous yet- you have to go 12 months with no natural period or be over 54.

Thanks. You are much more informative than the doctors we are all seeing!

I was kind of hoping that the buggers would go away.

How am I going to know when day 12 is if I skip a period? That's when I need to take the progesterone.

You have to work by dates- are you using separate estrogen and a progestogen?

If so, you need to stick to a date. So you'd take the progestogen (for example) on Day 1 of each month, or Day 12 or whatever day you choose. Obviously in a 30-day month it's not going to be exactly 28 days but that doesn't matter.

At the moment, imagine your bleed had arrived a week ago. (it usually comes 2-3 days after the last progesterone. )

Count the first day of bleeding as Day 1, then count forward to Day 15 and take the progestogen then.

Whatever day that is, stick with that day next month. And so on.....

These are not 'periods' they are withdrawal bleeds ( like you get using the Pill) . You need them to stop the lining getting too thick.

The only way to tell if you are not having natural periods is to stop HRT (which I doubt you want to do) or wait till you are 54 then use conti.

Sorry- you mentioned Day 12?

It's usually Day 15 to 26. That's 12 days of progestogen.
