sex and vagifem

I am in a new relationship after a very long marriage. I’m 55 and have just been prescribed vagifem for vaginal atrophy and recent bouts of post sex cystitis. I am currently using vagifem every night for 14 nights and will then drop down to 2 nights/week. I inserted a pessary last night and then had sex straight away and then again this morning. I advised my boyfriend to wash himself well afterwards but I am worried he will have absorbed some estrogen. Should I be worried? Is night time sex a no no right now?

The dose is tiny so he won't turn into a woman.

However, it may not be working for you as a lot will be lost/ perhaps come out with the semen.

It would be better to pop it in after you have finished:)

You can use Vagifem at any time- not just bedtime. Unlike Ovestin cream which would ooze out when walking, so it's best used at night, Vagifem sticks to the vaginal walls. You could use it in the morning or whenever it's convenient.

Don't have sex straight after because it will simply be moved around and possibly fall out afterwards.

I have been using Vagifem on and off for about 5 years, I am now 61. I found that it really helps with Vaginal atrophy which started once I had gone through the menopause. I used it regularly for about 18 months and combining it with reading good sexy/steamy regency romances made my sex life really comfortable. ie. no burning sensation during foreplay or sex. I then gave it a break for a while but am now using it regularly again as the burning sensation is back so need to build up my levels again. Went to see a gynaecologist today and she recommends to also use a range of organic products from yesyesyes. Will update you when I have tried them. Don't forget to give the steamy regency novels a go as well.

Is vagifem a cream OP or is it the hormone absorption you are concerned about mainly? I’m jumping on your thread OP as I was about to post a similar question.

I am using Estriol cream 3 x per week and am 52, in a relationship with lots of sex. I can’t use it at night when I see my b.friend it makes everything too wet, so apply in the morning and wear a panty liner. I wanted to know what others do.

my Vagifem is a tiny pessary that sticks to the vaginal wall, you can use it at anytime of the day, I prefer it to the estrogen creams.

Estriol cream is meant to be used at night so you may be better off switching to Vagifem.

myidentitymycrisis · 04/08/2019 06:27

Thanks, I will ask my GP , is vagifem a lifelong treatment in the same way?

JinglingHellsBells · 04/08/2019 08:07

And yes, it tends to be used for life.

JinglingHellsBells · 04/08/2019 08:12

Sorry- stupid site deleted my message before posting when I added @ to your name.

@myidentitymycrisis If you like cream you could ask for Ovestin which is 1/10th of the amount of estriol (generic product) . It's stronger (hence using less.) You can also use it after sex, so my gynae told me if that's not too much faff. You can also use it during the day but it depends how much seepage you get. (Won't work if it all oozes out quickly.)

If you need it 3 x a week are those the same nights you have sex or can you juggle around that?

Vagifem is fine too but it's a different type of estrogen and slightly stronger and some women find it irritates, others love it.

On the sexual note - is there any palatable changes? The link being towards practicing cunnilingus.
