Do you suffer from heavy periods?

And what do/have you done to ease them?
I’ve always suffered from heavyish periods but at almost 46 they are getting heavier.
I have a uterine polyp which was removed a year ago but has grown back, so that obviously isn’t helping the situation. My gynaecologist recommended a Mirena but I was hesitant due to several friends hating it and lots of negative reviews online.
However, I could have periods for another 6-8 years or so and I’m at the end if my tether with them.
Any advice?

My GP has put me on the mini pill (only just started it so don't know if it's working yet) because I was anaemic and he said it was important to prevent that (I didn't want a Mirena and he accepted that without question). He said to try it for 3 months and see if it made a difference and if it didn't or I got a lot of breakthrough bleeding to come back and we'd try something else because he didn't think women should have to live with this problem I nearly fainted having read the experiences of some women on here with their GPs.

I was in the same situation at 46 and having resisted the mirena for years out of desperation I had one and my god it’s been the best thing I ever did after a few months of spotting I have gone from severe anemia with dreadful flooding to no periods at all, my only regret is that I didn’t get one years ago.
