Do I need a diagnosis?

I am 48 and suspect I have been perimenopausal for at least the last 3 -4 years. My periods are lighter when they appear and at one point, I went 4 months between periods - average is around 8 weeks after previously having clockwork periods since day one.

I sweat at night but and am growing hairs at an alarming rate on my chin and neck (!) but other than that, am well and not particularly in any discomfort.

Is there any reason to see a doctor? I can't remember the last time I went to the doctors and I see no real reason at the moment to bother anyone as am managing fine. But is there any value in a diagnosis, as such?

I'm not sure what problem you'd be reporting that you want treatment for. someone will be along soon to suggest you could be at risk of osteoporosis if your periods aren't regular.

I doubt you will get a diagnosis unless you book in with a specialist. 12 months without a period and you are considered to be post-menopausal. At that point you can ask for a blood panel to confirm but unless you are seriously suffering they don’t seem to care much. At least that’s been my experience. Best of luck, OP. I bet I could match you for hairy chins! Smile
