Birth control pill for perimenopausal symptoms

I started the thread asking if it was too soon to ask for HRT after only having perimenopausal symptoms (terrible insomnia and hot flushes) for two months. Thanks all so much for your advice on that one.

Have been to the GP today who suggested I try either the combined mini pill or a progesterone-only pill. She said that because all the symptoms come in the second half of my cycle and my period is still regular, the pill might help to steady the hormonal ups and downs. I'm like a new person in the first half of my cycle - sleep well, good mood, no hot flushes.

She's also ordered blood tests for thyroid and liver function, which I'm having next week.

What do people think? Is this a common approach? Does anyone else take the birth control pill for perimenopausal symptoms? Should I go progesterone only, or combined?? Any help and suggestions so gratefully received.

Hi! My GP suggested BCP during my peri but he insists that if hrt suits me, it is better to stay on it.
