Please can you help with night sweats?

I'm 41 and have had night sweats on and off since having DS2 almost 6 years ago. It now seems to have settled into a pattern of having them from mid cycle until my period starts. They're awful - I wake up absolutely drenched and I spend those 2 weeks or so washing bedding and pyjamas and having to get up earlier to shower and wash my hair.

Is having night sweats for those 2 weeks or so of my cycle normal? And is there anything I can do to help/stop them?

I'm assuming I should also go to the GP? If so, is it better to go during the time I'm having them in case they want to do blood tests? Or does that not matter?

Watch on iPlayer the documentary from last night, Mariela Frostrop Truth about menopause. I didn't realise my inability to sleep could be a symptom!

My mum had to buy a protective plastic sheet for her bed and change her nighty 3 times a night. She went to the doctors and they gave her some tablets to help with the sweats. They didn't stop but they were minimised

I watched that documentary. It was really interesting and it's what has prompted me to ask.

@Lunalula I don't suppose you have any idea what the tablets your mum was given are do you?
