Sandrena gel - what window is there?

Hey all

So I'm using sandrena gel and it is great - better than the patches which kept falling off! I put it on before bed at night and it occurred to me that this might be an issue on nights out. What window is there, as in, if I usually put it on at, say, 10pm, how much earlier or later than that could I use it without causing problems? Obviously, taking my trousers off, applying the gel and waiting for it to dry in public is not ideal haha.

Any advice appreciated.

I put it on in the morning so of course not wanting to get up at 6am on days off there is a gap of 3-4 hours and this doesn't seem to cause an issue.

Thankyou, seventhgonickname

it really doesn't matter at all- it's not like a crucial drug that has to be in your system at a certain level all the time.

I use Oestrogel which is very similar and I think the leaflet has some advice about missing a dose after 12 hours (it says apply the dose as normal after that, don't double up) so a few hours either way it not an issue.

Your body won't notice or care if you are an hour late or 6 hours late. You could also apply it in the morning instead if that's easier.

Found this. Yes, 12 hour window Smile

Hi, I wonder if someone can advise.

Sandrena takes sooo long to dry, that in the morning I'm stressing and getting up so early to shower, apply, wait to dry and get dressed, but as I'm taking Northisterone progesterone at night will it interfere with it if I also did this at night?

Plus, started having night sweats, I think someone said that night time application helps this, but would that then mean that I'd have day sweats?

Where do you apply yours and does it take long to dry. I'm just on 1mg, age 49, no periods in 2 years, on HRT since last May. Sandrena 1mg, Northisterone 1 tablet at night and a touch of testosterone 3 times a week.

I use Oestrogel and it takes no time at all to dry- about 30 seconds.

You might like to ask your dr to change, as they are very similar, just a different gel base is my understanding.

Where are you applying it? I split the dose am and pm, which is about half a teaspoon morning and same again at night. That half teaspoon is spread over either upper thigh- both legs- or upper arms.

It doesn't matter when you apply it. It's not like a drug that has an instant effect or wears off; it builds up in your system to a constant level. Women who stop using HRT are advised to wait 3 months for it to leave their system.

You could try applying it at night but it may not make any difference to your sweats.
It won't make any difference to when you take the Norethisterone but it's usually better to use both at the same time.

jingle I am applying it to my inner leg above my knee, it literally takes 40 mins to dry and is driving me mad.

I thought about doing it at night time instead. I don't know if it has to be exactly the same time every day, and was afraid it would interfere with Northisterone.

No one ever told me, doctor, to take both at same time!

This one is bio-identical.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/01/2019 19:31

Both Sandrena and Oestrogel are body-identical (that's the correct term drs use now for 'bio')

I'd go and see your dr and ask to change.

Mine gel is dry by the time I've cleaned my teeth or sooner.

Losingthewill8 · 08/01/2019 19:51

Oh wow! Ok, I definitely will. Thank you for the info.

cocoallure · 08/01/2019 20:00

Losing if your getting sweats still maybe you need a higher dose? I have 4 pumps in the morning, on inner arms and inner thigh, it dries fast. I have also moved to inserting the progesterone tablet as advised by gp as it was giving me tummy ache, who would have thought you could swallow or insert the same tablet!!

Losingthewill8 · 09/01/2019 10:20

Does the one that you have come in a bottle over 100ml. I do quite a bit of travelling so it will have to go in my liquids bag?

So yours is bio-identical too?

I wonder would I have to wean off one before going on the other. I'm seeing a specialist at end of Feb and will ask them about changing. Thank you
