Hrt patches worse than gel?

Hi all

I've been started on Hrt for severe pmt under the guidance of Dr Pannay. I tried the gel first for a month and was on 4 pumps a day. I felt quite good but thought I'd give the patches a try as I kept forgetting the gel. Anyway I put my first 100mg patch on yesterday (I'm to change them 2 x a week) and today I feel so anxious!!!!! I'm not sure if it's just because where I am in my cycle or if its the patch but I certainly didn't get this on the gel. Has anyone else noticed this if they've swapped?

I couldn't tolerate the patches - I have MS and really struggle with MS fatigue. The patches turned me into a zombie which makes fatigue problems even worse. I currently have no medication for the menopause.
It's hellish even trying to get an appointment so I am just riding it out. For the next year or so Confused

Hi Jo - what progesterone were u using wth the gel? it could be that the progesterone in your patch is not working for you (causing anxiety)

Hi kalirfoniadreams. I'm on urgostan (not spelt right!). Don't think it's that as this is new since switching to the patches.

What i meant was the progesterone in the patch may differ from that which you took alongside the gel.

Did u previously take utrogestan?
What patch ru using now?

jo6677 · 10/10/2018 12:16

Yes. I started on estradiol (spelling?!) gel daily about 6 or 7 weeks ago and take utrogestan 12 days a month. Was going quite well. Didn't think anything would change switching to patches. The patch is called progynova and is still estradiol and I change it twice a week.

so you still take utrogestan?

does seem weird that you're effectively on same regime and feeling bad. could be coincidental?
in that perhaps you need to up dose anyway and it's happened at same time as swapping to patch.
why don't you try to get used to the gel? as that is supposed to be the gold standard.

I think that's a good idea. My partner wondered if the patch gives a higher dose initially which gradually reduces until the next patch, which could make sense. I've always been super sensitive to hormones and doses. I'm due to switch patches tonight but I think I will go back to the gel in the morning and see what happens. So great have this forum!! Thank you
☺️
