Estriol Cream - newby

I have just been prescribed this by the GP because of soreness during sex. The prescription and the packet says apply in the evening. I need some advice from those of you who have used this. Firstly, I am finding that some does come out afterwards. Is this ok? Is enough staying in to be absorbed? Secondly, What is the situation with having sex after you have put the cream in? Does it stop it working and is DH going to absorb oestrogen and get bigger boobs than me??!!
TIA

which sort are you using- Ovestin or Gynest?
Ovestin is a much smaller amount as it's stronger than Gynest.

-Firstly, I am finding that some does come out afterwards. Is this ok?

Yes and Yes. Some will always come out but that's why nightime use is best - effects of gravity otherwise.

-Is enough staying in to be absorbed?

Yes

  • Secondly, What is the situation with having sex after you have put the cream in?

It's best not to obviously because it won't really stay in place long enough. I was advised to use it AFTERWARDS if at all on those occasions.

It will not affect your partner as it's so weak. I asked the same question of my consultant!

You use it for every night for 14 days then for 2 nights a week after that (forever mainly or you will go back to how you were- sore- which is not nice.) So basically, avoid sex on those nights, or use it afterwards - bit fiddly and not exactly romantic.

Thanks for reply. They have given me a generic one Estriol .01% cream. When it said evenings I wasn’t sure why now I understand. So just before bed to avoid too much dropping out. Does sort of stop any spontaneity. Although not much of that anymore!! Anyway not a problem after the 2 weeks.

I didn't know there was a generic one but Ovestin is 0.01%

You could use it daytime but obviously more will ooze out more quickly.

If you want to use it daytime you'd have to spend some time with your feet up!

It's not critical if you miss the odd night or so in the first 14 days- nothing terrible will happen. Just carry on for around 2 weeks to start with.

(I've used it for years and years.)
