So in an effort to reduce my symptoms i am cutting down on refined sugar. So no cakes no biscuits no chocolate. I'm on day 3 with the most awful headache but I am feeling a little better has anyone else tried this and have hints and tips? Or does anyone fancy joining me and we can support each other.

Hello 😀, I could do with joining you as have heard it will help. I will start tomorrow, and post in each day.

How are you feeling now? Has your headache subsided?

It will be tough for me though as definitely have a sweet tooth...

I'm on day 8 and it's been ok first few days were definitely the hardest the headache has almost gone and I think I'm sleeping better. I made a rhubarb cake for my husband and didn't even lick the spoon!

I've also refused ketchup and am guessing I need to switch to reduced sugar baked beans

I did really well until late afternoon when I fell out with our pharmacist! Have been waiting a week for medication for dh only to be told today that there is a shortage. Now no time to organise a replacement before he runs out ☹️.

After I was very “assertive“ they managed to find some in their cupboard but it caused me to eat a bar of chocolate whilst shopping afterwards!

Apart from that slight up it was okay today. I am more positive for tomorrow...

How are you doing?

Thanks for the link mummybubble I will have a look at that.

I had a jam sandwich last Thursday without thinking but other than that still no cakes or biscuits it's getting easier still got a slight headache but nothing like the first few days. Day ten I think today.

Well done you, I am impressed! I am so glad you started this thread and it has helped to give me the kick I needed.

I went to the doctors yesterday and whilst she was talking I realised that I simply have to take control of my eating and then my physical health will most definitely improve. I think my mum suddenly dying and then me becoming perimenoapusal has had a big impact on my diet and now is the time to deal with it all.

Kahlua4me · 22/09/2018 08:46

Hope that sounded okay, I meant I was impressed that the sandwich was all you had over the last 10 days. 😊

I'm sorry to hear about your dm Flowers
Taking it one day at a time, I lost a lb this week so that's motivating me too. I was a bit concerned that I'm replacing cake and biscuit with cheese so I've stocked up on laughing cow lights and am aiming to snack on those when an Apple alone just doesn't cut it.

Thank you x

Laughing cow are better for you than proper cheese I think so they should be good with an apple. Sounds delicious actually, think I may try that too.

Well done for losing a lb. I lost one too this week, more would have been good but in the right direction.

The main thing I want to do though is get a grip on eating properly. I am sure it is better for dc and dh too as I am the one sorting the meals.

I find i am ok if i just have up to one small sweet thing a day, like a mini twirl or a jaffa cake. I don’t avoid sugar in sauces etc but I definitely notice worse symptoms if I have a larger sweet treat. I have started trying to imagine the chocolate bars with evil eyes to remind myself Smile. Your abstinence is impressive.

InfiniteSheldon · 23/09/2018 09:52

Went out for dinner last night I desert! My DH kept saying are you sure? And they put a dozen or so jelly beans on the tray with the bill and I didn't eat any. That was hard.

I think you're right to set your own boundaries one small treat is fine.

No dessert that should say

Well done you. Did you feel as though you needed it afterwards or were you ok?

I haven’t been so good today, tiredness is certainly my weakness. If I am tired then I simply crave sugar and it spirals then. I have had a really bad headache too which hasn’t helped...

Am planning on going to bed straight after The Bodyguard tonight so I am not tired tomorrow and then back to it.

InfiniteSheldon · 24/09/2018 09:28

The headaches are definitely sugar related I'm thinking if it a bit like giving up smoking if I have a sweet treat I'll just want another one. I did have an options hot chocolate last night as I really wanted something.
