'Ovulation' pains only in menopause?

I've been perimenopausal for a few years but now haven't had a period for 9 months. I had ultrasound scans when my periods first went haywire because doc wanted to rule out other causes first as I was only just 40, all fine.
The last few months I've had really sharp stabbing pains low down in my abdomen which I think are probably ovulation pains. I've never had them before. They can be sharp enough to take my breath away and come on and off for a few days at a time. I get them on both sides (not at the same time) which is one of the reasons I think they might be ovulation pains. Has anyone else had anything like this?
