Menopause

Day 18 - still bleeding. Normal perimenopause or see GP?

Hi all, I'm 48, periods been slightly irregular for the last few months. I'm now having a monster period and have been bleeding for 18 days. I'm just looking for advice really - does this sound like standard perimenopause stuff or do you think it's worth visiting the GP to check it's nothing more worrying?

Hi newspell, going through the same. The doctor thinks I'm probably going through perimenopause but wants to double check with examination. She gave me tranexamic acid to stop flow, looking forward for a break. I'm a coward when it comes to doctors but I think it's always best just to double check. Wouldn't be worried though as it appears to be normal for women our age. We never seem to get a break do we? Lol

I had exactly the same (Although ended up bleeding for a few weeks in the end.) I just assumed it was part of perimenopause and tried to ignore it but eventually went to gp. She said you should always get unusual bleeding checked out just to be on safe side. I was sent for scan etc and all seems ok. Probably worth just making an appointment to chat through.

Hi, I had a similarly long period a month ago, age 51, didn't think it would ever end. Some days light some days heavy. I put it down to my age and didn't visit GP. However if yours is constantly heavy and exhausting maybe you should see if GP can help.

Thanks all - it's good to know I'm not alone. It's still going so nearly 3 weeks now... Not super heavy but annoying and occasionally painful. I will make an appt just in case. I've always had such regular periods (and have been in denial about the prospect of menopause!) so it's taking a bit of getting used to that I am now in this new phase....I'm sure this board will be a great help.

I had a 16 day one in July and back in December, at the time I thought they were never going to end. I did go to the docs in Dec, she was rubbish, saying that it wasn't necessarily the menopause, just my cycle changing pre-menopause as I don't have any other symptoms (I'm 43). After the mammoth periods I then have to wait ages for the next one... I'm 28 days late and counting so far since July's one.
