Low estrogen and hair loss

While I've had hair shedding periods before (usually to do with low ferritin), I've got virtually no estrogen in the tank. Do you think this is causing the current huge spate of hair loss?

Is HRT the only answer?

It's not going to make it worse so why not have a go? Have you thought about the Mirena and if it's the cause of hair loss? Most hair loss is related to the progestogens not estrogen.

I've had a mirena coil for 18 months. I think I would have seen it before then. I've been using Estrogel but not absorbed it at all. I'm deciding whether to take oral estrogen but I really really hate taking tablets, and I know it's safer transdermally and less side effects

Have you had blood tests showing it's not absorbed? if so, I don't think you have any options other than trying tablet form. Have you used estrogel and gone up to 4 pumps a day?

Yes to blood tests and yes to Estrogel

Did you apply as 'directed? I know that sounds obvious but there was another person here last week saying the same. I didn't know how she applied 4 pumps at once (I'd not have enough skin!) because to get absorption it has to be spread thinly over a large area. The template in some cartons shows a template about the size of an A4 page for 1 pump. I spread half a pump on each upper arm. If it's not spread thinly, you will only get absorption from the layer next to the skin IYSWIM and the rest may dry without you absorbing more.
