Struggling with mood swings

Hey. Looking for some advice/support. I'm 43 years old and peri menopausal. Periods coming when they want, could be every 3 months or 6 months. My main issue is mood swings, low mood, irritability. It's like a switch is flicked in my brain. I can go from social and happy one minute and the next my brain is in a fog and I can't think of anything to say or feel really sad and depressed. Anyone have any experience of this and have some advice?

No advice really but im the same, the last few weeks I have been so down, it's mad as I was excitedly looking forward to the holidays too.

I sympathise though I don't have any suggestions. I'm having a dreadful summer, low mood, irritable, ruined a family holiday - though DC and dh behavior wasn't 100%wonderful either-but I just wanted to check out and be left alone. I'm thinking of starting with exercise and proper diet, but I'm sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit.Blush

Same age and in peri too. Hrt helps me with brain fog and low mood. Actually I try to keep myself busy and not to think so much about.

Yes Im going through this too. Im up and down, crying, sweating, sore boobs, crazy periods ugh.

I feel really sad & bleak at times, like Im turning into an old woman. Im finished having my family & definitely wont miss my heavy periods so I dont even understand why Im like this!
From what Ive googled diet and excerise seem to be a big help in perimenopause so Im going to try and work on this.

I was the same. Changed diet and exercise to no great avail, the mood swings almost literally made me insane: I had active plans to leave home because I believed I hated my family so much. I have no idea how they coped/why DH didn’t leave me. HRT transformed the situation and has been invaluable.

Hi I'm just starting (1week) on hrt after sweats aches fogs and moods. Feel like my body has been taken over. Fine 1 min horrible the next. Dizzy with headaches and worse sweats now than before. How long should I persist before trying alternative

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 22/08/2018 09:51

Hrt seems to be the only thing that has stopped me being a murderous menopausal old bag. I resisted for a long time, but didn't want to Do Time, or get divorced. Polly Perky stuff on here convinced me that HRT wasn't the devil's work.

MrsJayy · 22/08/2018 09:55

I am 9 weeks into Hrt and my moods have balanced quite dramatically I still get Pmt but I do love my hrt. I am 47 and thought my periods would have lessened but i am still regular.

MrsJayy · 22/08/2018 09:58

1 week is nothing keep at it if you can . I hd 3 months prescribed nur said try and finish before deciding which I am doing

Dorje · 22/08/2018 23:44

HRT is what helped for me.

Also early nights, and drinking water.

Go for a half hour walk with kids after dinner ever other evening.
Make sure to have a breather at work at lunchtime. Daylight and fresh air for 15 minutes.

Same here, I'm 45 periods all over the place for last couple of years. GP advised HRT to preserve bone density. HRT has really helped with low mood/mood swings.
