Hi all,
I've started getting some symptoms of menopause over the last 6 months or so, I'm 38, and I'm wondering should I go to my GP and if so will they run tests ? I'm hearing they don't do anything until periods stop for X amount of years, but is this just in older women. Fretting a bit about it all really.
I'm in Scotland if that makes a difference. Would really appreciate any advice.
TIA x

I started to have symptoms at 38-9 but I finally diagnosed at 41. My diagnosis of early menopause based more on my symptoms. You can check your FSH and your thyroid.

Thanks @Emerald13. I think I had my FSH done a few years ago during fertility struggles. I seem to remember the result was 10. Would that indicate that I could be nearer to menopause?
I know at the time they did say I had low ovarian reserve so I guess it would make sense that I would be quite near menopause.

So did you take two years to go through or are you still going through it? I assume I could be years of this to go. Are you on any HRT?

At what stage do they offer HRT?

Sorry all the questions, this is all so new.

I am also wondering if perhaps my symptoms may be down to broken sleep over the past couple of years, it such an unknown.

I think I'll make that GP's appointment but I don't like making a fuss if it's not something they'll investigate / treat.
Thanks for any advice x

Hi Kion!
I also had fertility problems, my FSH was about 12 and after a year it was 35!
I also had severe symptoms with almost regular but very light periods! I had insomnia, insulin resistance, night sweats, brain fog and terrible body aches.
Yes my gyn putted me almost immediately on hrt. I am 42 now and a year on hrt.

I'm in the same boat and interested to hear how you get on. I'm 37 and have been getting symptoms for a few months. I'm also wondering whether I should go to the gp yet. There's a history of naturally early menopause in my family.

At your age they will put you on HRT due to the long term health risks of low oestrogen when you are still so young. I’m 36 going through the same thing, been on HRT for six months now.

Thanks ladies. That's really helpful to know. I was just worried as o don't like to waste my gps time if this is normal, I wasn't sure.
I'm going to call them tomorrow for an appointment.
That's interesting @Emerald13 that your FSH was similar to mine, I'm not sure what mine would be now but maybe they will test me for that.
My symptoms aren't severe but have been very irregular periods, which is very unusual for me as I'm usually 27 days or thereabouts. But I've been 17 days one month and 37 days the next. And some periods are lasting about double the usual time. I've also got really bad brain fog and zero concentration. Dryness down below (sorry tmi). My hair is like straw and easily breaks. Night and day sweats, fatigue.
I wasn't sure if I'd be written off with these things though as I've got a toddler and so tiredness may be contributing!?! I just don't know.
Like you @Runningshorts I've a family history of earlier menopause but not this early right enough. Everyone I mention it too says I'm far too young.
Did the HRT help with your symptoms @AnastasiaaBeaverhousen?x

Oh and also palpitations and a feeling of constant PMS are other things I've been experiencing as well. x

I'm still trying to get the dosage right, but I never had terrible symptoms anyway, mainly just irritability and low mood. I only found out because I was undergoing infertility testing.

Kion · 21/08/2018 18:09

That's interesting @AnastasiaaBeaverhousen that your symptoms weren't severe. That's how I feel too. And low mood and anxiety is despite me being on Citalopram AD for this past year.x

Also just an update also, I got bloods taken at GP today to check hormone levels. She said it was three markers they test for but I'm not sure what they are. I will google them. I'd imagine it is AMH and FSH but not sure of a third one.x

Hi ladies, I got my blood test results back today and my FSH was 4.0 and LH was 5.4. So doesn't appear to indicate menopause. I'm just really puzzled by my symptoms 😕. Dr thinks might be either stress or post viral issues since I had a bad virus / sinusitis a few months ago and haven't really fully got over it, just really run down.

I would really appreciate anyone's advice / experience. TIA xx
