Hair loss and HRT Question

I'm taking 100 mg Prometrium and 1 pump of Estrogel. I've been in perimenopause for a year or so and have noticed my hair is thinner, especially around the sides and front, basically my hairline. I really noticed the hair thinning in Feb of this year.

I'm scared the HRT will cause more hair loss. I have been searching but I can't get an answer...I'm just scared that it will speed up the loss. I was hoping it would help it get thicker. I've only just started HRT. Actually only have taken it twice because I ended up with a bad headache.

Has anyone found HRT has really helped to thicken up their hair? Thank you for any advice or information.

My understanding is that it’s the oestrogen that helps with hair health. One pump sounds quite low? So you'd need to keep at it before you'd see a difference.

My hair is definitely thicker though I wasn’t experiencing any obvious loss I was definitely shedding more hair pre-HRT. I don’t lose as much at all on HRT so it seems that I have less hair in the resting phase so less shedding, a bit like pregnancy. I’m also not having to unblock the shower trap as often either.

I can attest to the strange effect that HRT has had on my eyebrows. When I started HRT I had quite a few grey hairs in my eyebrows which are black and I was using an eyebrow mascara daily. About 9months after, I realised I didn't have as many grey hairs in my eyebrows and in fact some were growing in black, so black at the roots and white at the tip.

I'm 2 years in and have only one solitary grey eyebrow hair now. My consultant confirmed it was the effect of the oestrogen.

So I think you need to persevere and give it time. Whilst I got immediate noticeable relief from hot flushes some of the other benefits have only become apparent over the longer term.

I hope it works for you.

@Deux thank you so mich for your reply. That really gives me hope. My gynecologist said I can up the dose to 2 pumps if I want. So this is good to hear. I've never had hair loss problems so I suspect it is from the lack of estrogen in my body. At least I hope so and then the estrogel will help restore it or at least it hopefully won't get worse.

Also, is it normal to break out in a sweat due to anxiety? It is so strange! It'll just come over me and I won't be able to stop it and I get so hot. Ugh.
