Does HRT cause headaches and insomnia?

I'm 43 and my gynecologist has just put me on HRT. I have a topical gel for the Estrogen and an oral pill for progestrone. My main peri symptoms are anxiety, hot flushes, impeding sense of doom, hair thinning and just moody. She told me to take both at bedtime. So I did.
I could not fall asleep for ages and I had a headache. The next day I felt pretty off and dizzy. Took it again the next night and had the same reaction.

Has anyone else had this? I thought it would help me to sleep but it made me feel worse...I wonder if this is a side effect and if it would go away in time? I just am confused. Help! :)

Yes. For the short time I was on HRT I had regular migraines. The only time I had them prior to that was years before when I was on the pill so obviously I am sensitive to hormone treatment. Completely disappeared when I stopped the HRT and what's more, the perimenopausal symptoms seemed nothing much to complain about. I'm glad I stopped, far better without it.

I became insomniac around the time I started having perimen. symptoms, I don't think the HRT had anything to do with it.
