Hi I am 65 and just managed to persuade my doctor to put me back on the estogen gel I was on three years ago - I know everyone has been finding this hot weather bad but for me it just increased my hot ‘sweats’ to the point where they became unbearable sweat just runs down my face and my hair is plastered to my head with sweat I was expecting an argument but she took one look at the state of me and wrote out a prescription can’t wait to get some normality back in my life!

I think Blondie that according the new guidelines, you can use hrt for life if your quality of life is poor without it and there are no contradictions.

@Blondie1953 Assume you are also using a progestogen of some kind too? You need to unless you have had a hysterectomy- not just Oestrogel on its own.

Hi Queen of the Nights I had a full hysterectomy 28 years ago and started in early menopause when I was 42 and its got worse over the years I was referred to a menopause specialist and I asked how long the menopause could last and he said into my 80's! great!

Ah that's good that you are on the right treatment. The risks of estrogen-only HRT are incredibly low- in fact breast cancer rates are below those of women not on any HRT at all. Stick with it! My mum had flushes into her 80s and now even at 90 swears she still has the odd one.
