prolonged menstrual cycle

I'm concerned about the way my menstrual period stopped after eight days (it usual ends on the third or fourth day), and it's 7 days after and it just restarted again. I never had this much frequent bleeding. Is it likely to stop? I'm 44

Irregular bleeding is common during peri but I think that maybe it needs a further investigation.

Im 45 and have been diagnosed as peri menopause. Sometimes I have a usual period 4/5 days but this last one lasted for two weeks with less bleeding than normal (it's usually very heavy). A few days off and then another period like I usually have. So all in all three weeks of bleeding. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding is usual albeit a nuisance!! I think every woman is slightly different so you have to trust your instincts. If it doesn't feel right then go and see the doctor and request further investigation.
