Does HRT do anything for libido?

I'm in the position of my brain being willing but my body is not especially interested.

I just don't get turned on like I used to and my orgasms are weaker and less satisfying.

TMI, I know...but will HRT give these things a bit of a boost?

TIA.

HRT has helped me. I had horrendous dryness, so bad a hysteroscopy under GA was unsuccessful. Gynae confirmed that sex felt like sandpaper for some women, it did for me. 6 months on oral Kliovance and vagifem pessary and I'm feeling so much better. My libido is improving and orgasms are easier to achieve. I also don't need to pee as much and don't dribble!

Down side is I have gained weight and find it harder to shift and my BP has gone up a bit. HRT has saved my life and probably my relationship, I was ready to walk because I felt so awful. Good luck I hope things improve for you.

How long did it take to impact libido? I’m dead below waist and oestrogen therapy doesn’t help. I’ve started t gel - but no difference in three weeks. My orgasms are like lame sneezes pleasure factor is gone. I’m 46 and feel like ‘oh, so that’s it then?’ Why bother dating? Might as well knit and be done with men. Feedback greatly appreciated

yeah I think its helped.

Ladies lets stop saying to other women suffering dead libido due to the peri menopause that it might be psychological. It’s a fact that sex hormones plummet during this time. I find the ‘feelings’ feedback anti feminist. I used to have a drive that was so high a nuclear bomb could have dropped and I wouldn’t have noticed. Now...I’m grieving the abrupt loss of the drive I thought was mine indefinitely. Plus my gynae says women with thin lady bits (clits, sorry!) typically have far lower orgasm capacity than others. No wonder we are all at odds with each other Xmas Hmm

Me too

Please be careful with tibolone . I tried It and had appalling side effects. I wasn't aware the tibolone was affecting my joints and was having steroid injections regularly to try to counteract pain. Obviously I had a bad reaction but only worked out the link by reading on menopause sites . Just beware

Lloydette - I've been taking it for nearly 4 years now so can't remember how long it took for testosterone to help but as I said earlier in the thread - (I think) it hasn;t done anything for libido but the big O's are right back where they were ie response is there - and yes it is physiological not psychological! Keep on with it and hopefully you will notice a difference...

By the way what form does your HRT take - if you are taking oral oestrogen then this could be part of the problem as I said back up thread? You need to be on transdermal oestrogen or else the T may not work so well. Also if you are on ADs and some other medications also depress libido. If you are taking progesterone all the time this is not a good idea either - as it can have a depressive effect so stick with cyclical HRT if you can.
