Hi all , as if all teh other symptoms arent enough . I am finding alcohol really affects me , terrible nights sleep and hot flushes. Wine especially causes this - is anyone else the same? has anyone found anything they can drink? I def need to find something , don't think I can manage being teetotal ! :) thanks

I've had to just ditch alcohol recently, just isn't worth it. I'm sure I'll go back to it eventually, but haven't had a drink since before Christmas. So, let me know if you find something!

Distressingly, coffee is causing hot flushes now but I do draw the line there so will have to endure it.

As we get older and especially during meno, we become more sensitive to the effects of alcohol on the body.
This is because our cartilage and tendons lose water more quickly and the body cannot hold more water. And the more water in the body, the better we can absorb alcohol.

I have given up alcohol recently. I only drink red wine and there were a few times when it woke me at 1am and kept me awake all night. I also felt really depressed the next morning. It's just not worth it. I am also thinking of giving up caffeine too as a 2nd cup of coffee gets my heart racing.

Yes, I've recently found that even one glass of wine, or a g and t will end up with a migraine. So it's no more alcohol for me.

A glass of wine I can tolerate (I tend only only have a small glass or 125ml), but more than that and I look immediately flushed, can’t go to sleep, can’t stay asleep, wake up feeling utterly wretched. It’s horrible.

thanks all , that's quite depressing then - I did try a rhubarb g and t last night as my dh's bday - didn't have a great nights sleep was bearable tho :(

I might re-try sage as it was quite good when I had night sweats way back in the beginning. I'm getting far more intense hot flushes now, so worth a go.

Yes, I started to get really bad migraines in my 40s and found I couldn’t tolerate alcohol anymore. I’m 53 and hardly drink atall now. Tbh I also find if ive eaten a big meal and feel really full, my hot flushes are a lot worse.

madcatladyforever · 11/06/2018 20:31

Alcohol plays havoc with me now post menopause, there is literally nothing I can drink without feeling really ill so I have completely given it up.

BrownTurkey · 11/06/2018 20:52

Havoc here too if I have more than the odd little one. And sugar.

pontiouspilates · 12/06/2018 07:45

Absolutely wine for me. Poor sleep, heart palpitations and hot flushes. I find one small can of pre mixed gin and tonic is ok, but if I drink anything else; I need to prepare for a long, restless night.

I found wine affects me really badly. Flushed, flushes, no sleep, feel awful. I can drink 2 beers & be ok. Once a week max though.
